Helix Films and Meccano Toy Company join forces to develop an original 3D feature film based upon the iconic Erector Set brand of children’s construction toys. This is the first time Meccano has partnered with a film production company to generate a film franchise, based on their toys.
Company History
It all began back in 1898 in a small Liverpool shop where Franck Hornby took pleasure inventing a construction game for his children using screws and nuts. This gave rise to the MECCANO system in 1901.Franck Hornby finalized his system and marketed it under the brand name “Mechanics Made Easy”. The name MECCANO was registered in 1907.
The first MECCANO factory opened in Liverpool that same year; that factory was very quickly replaced to meet rising production demands. Two new factories opened as MECCANO’s success spread worldwide: one opened in Berlin in 1912, and the other in Belleville, France in 1920. The Belleville factory was quickly replaced by one in Bobigny that, by 1951, manufactured more than 500,000 Meccano sets a day!
Helix Films & Meccano
We believe that there is a tremendous opportunity for Meccano /Erector in conjunction with Helix Films in Hollywood to develop a film franchise to enhance the brand and increase the sales of Meccano/Erector toys worldwide. This will take time and care to ensure that the film franchise, and the first movie based on these toys will have characters that children and adults can feel at home with and create a desire to purchase these products worldwide.
HELIX‘s goal is to facilitate the Meccano/Erector brand to become a successful competitive international movie franchise.
Meccano Erector Set – Opportunities
Merchandising has become one of the most important elements of mainstream filmmaking. Before a studio commits to production dollars, it wants to know what kind of ancillary markets are available for income no longer guaranteed by ticket sales.
It seems the future of toy-based films in the multiplex is more along the lines of “Transformers.” Appeal to nostalgia, make it big, make it grown-up — and sell more action figures (both to kids and adult collectors.
A feature film in the works by Helix Films, Inc.
